99% of all connection problems are caused by not having the right foundation ánd by not having a focus on your horse’s balance.
And with our horses becoming more sensitive, I see more and more riders struggling to find harmony.
However, I’m not surprised and you shouldn’t blame yourself.
Because for the past 20 years, we’ve been seeing a lot of riders getting high scores who don’t give a good example of what correct riding looks like.
So, of course, you’re confused about how to train your horse!
After more than 50 years of training horses at all levels and having had the privilege of learning from the best trainers of that time, I’ve developed a clear training system.
This system helps you create a solid connection with your horse by riding from back to front, allowing the energy to flow into your hand naturally.
All without forcing your horse or creating a specific frame with your hand.
I have been part of the Dutch dressage team, trained and competed dozens of horses at Grand Prix level, and served as a national coach for countries like the Netherlands and Finland.
Even after so many years as a rider and trainer, I am still deeply passionate about riding and teaching.
I have taught many riders from all over the world, and I am on a mission to ensure that the basic principles of dressage are not lost.
Learn how to receive the generated energy in your hand without creating heavy contact.
Dive into what the contact rein really entails and how to apply it in practice.
Discover the importance of forwardness for achieving a good connection and how to develop it.
Get tips on how to prevent tension while riding and what you can do to release it.
Morgan Lashley (Equine Veterinarian and Rehabilitation Specialist) explains everything about the different postures of a horse and their effects.
The foundation of my system is based on classical principles.
''With the online training you'll be able to break the whole dressage riding down into segments. And then you understand where it's all heading to."
Alison Banbury
''I really enjoyed Rien's program, it's the kind of thing that I keep going back to, over and over again. Whenever I have a question and I want to make sure that I'm on the right track, I go back to the training."
Anne-Marie Kornachuk
"Rien explains how to ride the whole horse and not only the neck, in a very simple way, because he divides everything into small steps."
Francesca Newman
"Rien has an incredible depth of knowledge and understanding of the horse's psychological and emotional world with a great respect for the rider."
Jane Karol
"Too many riders make their horse too short in the front. But a horse that becomes short in the front ends up becoming long in the back."
– Rien van der Schaft
This training is suitable for horses of all levels, breeds, and ages.
There’s a good chance it will work. Rien’s method respects the way horses learn and is developed in a way that will help your horse’s body become stronger over time. He has been training horses for over 45 years and has never encountered a horse for whom his method didn’t work.
However, not all horses have the same talent, so it may take longer for one horse to improve its level than another. But Rien believes that every horse can make you feel good, no matter how much talent it has.
That said, this training method might not be for every rider. If you specifically want to ride your horse low, deep, and round or use a training aid and are looking for a “quick fix” to solve a problem, then this online training and method may not be suitable for you.
